For all those people still following the Barack Obama/Rick Warren debacle and who felt relieved after hearing this from Melissa Etheridge because she tells us now 'The Choice Is Ours Now', know that i understand where she is coming from. Yet, i have to disagree with her after seeing The Rachel Maddow Show's story on Warren's little video sent out to the members of Saddleback Church. Warren has a problem with arrogance in calling us in the LGBTQ community Christiphobes because we are tired of being beaten down with religious fundamentalism. He is also being more of a problem to Obama according to Rachel. The interview towards the end of the segment is very telling about where Warren stands on other issues. To me he places blame on our community and misinterpreting his words. He said them and are on the airwaves and on the internets for ALL to see and hear. He fails to take ANY personal responsibility and would rather shift blame onto others. Wow, and he is a pastor. VERY INTERESTING!
So, Saddleback's site used to state gays could not join as members or serve in ministry at the church. The site was scrubbed of that information. So, i called the church and kindly asked them why they removed it and if their position had changed. After the nice lady found out i was queer, her cheery self opted to put me right through to the pastor 'on duty' at that time to talk to him to address and answer my questions. Of course i got voice mail and left my questions and concerns, and that i am a queer Christ-follower who blogs, in a kind and well-mannered tone on the voicemail (Citizen Journalism at work here). i said that i realized with Christmas coming upon us that i would not expect a call back until after Christmas. i won't hold my breath but if i do get a returned phone call i will update on the response.
